On January 3, Beijing time, Samsung Group announced the launch of Exynos AutoV9, the next generation of car entertainment system developed jointly with German automotive giant Audi.

Samsung reportedly confirmed that it would supply Exynos chips to Audi as early as 2017. The company joined Audi Progressive Semi Conductor Program as a supplier in 2017. Since then, Samsung has been supplying Exynos chips to the German auto giant.

Later, the company decided to build an independent brand Exynos Auto. Samsung released its first car brand Exynos processor on Jan. 3, local time. Exynos Auto V9 will be used in Audi's next generation of on-board information entertainment system, which is expected to debut in 2021.

It is reported that Exynos AutoV9 chip carries Cortex-A76 CPU core. Kenny Han, Vice President of Samsung Equipment Solutions Department, said: "We are very happy to launch a new series of Exynos Auto products from Exynos Auto V9, which not only meets the strict reliability requirements of the industry, but also brings powerful processing performance to the next generation of vehicle information entertainment system."

Exynos AutoV9 is designed for advanced information entertainment systems, which can display content on multiple screens for a safer and happier experience. The chip itself is based on 8nm process technology, using ARM's latest Cortex-A76 CPU core, precisely eight CPU cores, with a main frequency of up to 2.1 GHz.

V9 chip is coupled with ARM Mali G76 GPU, advanced HiFi 4 audio digital signal processor and intelligent nerve processing unit. In addition, the chip is equipped with a safety island core supporting automobile safety integrity level (ASIL) -B standard and LPDDR 4 and LPDDR5 DRAM. Exynos AutoV 9 chip provides connection support for up to 6 monitors and 12 cameras for multiple subsystems. Its GPU is built into three separate dedicated sets of Mali G76 GPU core and seamlessly supports multiple systems such as central information display, cluster display and backseat entertainment.

It is understood that Samsung hopes to win the support of other automobile manufacturers and can supply the chips to other automobile manufacturers. At present, the degree of automobile interconnection is getting higher and higher, and the demand for chip computing ability is also growing. Samsung's Exynos Auto V9 chip seems to meet this requirement.
