  In the context of big data, engineering majors in private universities play an important role in serving the rural revitalization strategy, but also face many challenges. This article first analyzes the current development status of engineering majors in private universities, the implementation status of rural revitalization strategies, and the application of big data technology in rural revitalization. Subsequently, the main challenges faced by engineering majors in private universities in serving rural revitalization were discussed, including insufficient educational resources, a disconnect between professional settings and rural needs, limited ability to apply big data technology, and imperfect mechanisms for school enterprise cooperation. In response to these challenges, this article proposes measures such as optimizing the allocation of educational resources, adjusting professional settings and curriculum systems, enhancing the ability to apply big data technology, and improving school enterprise cooperation mechanisms. Through these measures, private universities can better leverage the advantages of engineering majors, provide technical and talent support for rural revitalization, and promote the sustainable development of rural economy and society.
