  • Abstract:

The sorting and packaging of washed leafy vegetables are typically performed using separate, independently operating equipment. This operational model fails to conduct a detailed quantitative analysis of multidimensional appearance differences—such as individual plant morphology and the extent of spoilage—ultimately resulting in poor overall sorting accuracy. To address this, we propose the integration of a machine vision-based sorting method for washed leafy vegetables with an intelligent packaging machine.By using machine vision to capture high-resolution images of leafy vegetables, this method precisely quantifies multiple core physical parameters—including the area of leaf rot, maximum extended length, and proportion of foreign matter—thereby overcoming the limitations of traditional single-dimensional detection. A multi-weighted quality assessment model is constructed based on these multidimensional quantitative indicators to calculate a comprehensive quality score for the leafy vegetables. Combined with preset quality thresholds, this model dynamically calculates the push stroke of the sorting pusher, enabling precise and intelligent sorting of leafy vegetables with different quality grades.By dynamically adjusting the bag-opening specifications and mechanism activation delays in real time to accommodate leaf morphology, the system synchronizes with the material conveying rhythm. Additionally, it uses collaborative deviation calculations to correct the machine’s operational status in real time, thereby achieving seamless coordination between the sorting and packaging modules. In the experiment, the proposed method was validated through sorting tests. The comparative test results clearly demonstrate that when the proposed method is used for sorting pre-washed leafy vegetables, the average leaf integrity retention rate is 0.91, indicating a relatively ideal sorting effect.
